Makespace

Space-saving container

A project of Mariano Spadaro

The MakeSpace project results from the need to economise on the use of space in today’s ever-smaller homes – which are often untidy and chock-full of bits and pieces – by reducing or even eliminating wasted space. MakeSpace is a modular space-saving container, a universal furnishing accessory – the only one of its kind on the market – which is designed for use in the home or in an office environment. Easy to use and clean and with a traditional look, MakeSpace recalls the forms and materials of the past, but re-interpreted in a contemporary key.

Technique: The structure is in a natural light beech which is easy to the eye, and the base is lined with a coloured film in a range of colours that can be selected by the customer. The adjustable handle is in wood, and designed to attach the unit easily to any horizontal surface (table, shelf etc.). MakeSpace can be stacked in order to save even more space, and features dove-tail joints, since the level of mechanical stress is minimal. Laser-etched details recall the burned engravings of yesteryear, which are today obsolete but still have a high visual impact. A piece of long-forgotten history remains indelible.

Mariano Spadaro

Mariano Spadaro (Barletta, 1986). In 2011, Mariano Spadaro was awarded a degree in “Industrial Design” at the faculty of Architecture of the Polytechnic University in Bari. In his eyes, design is a process rather than a product, and the passions and emotions of the viewer should not be overlooked. Spadaro works with several design studios in Bari and Florence, taking inspiration from the great master architects and designers but with an eye to innovation and eco-sustainability. After completing a Master’s Degree in “Exhibit & Public Design” in 2013 at the faculty of Architecture in Rome, Spadaro moved to Frankfurt, where he has begun a new creative adventure based on a blend of culture, art and innovation.
